About the Indigenous Art Collection
The Indigenous Art Collection is one of the most significant public art collections of contemporary Indigenous art in Canada. Since the early 1960s, the Indigenous Art Centre has been collecting works by established, mid-career, and emerging Indigenous artists. This approach has resulted in a one-of-a-kind collection that represents the artistic practices of artists from Indigenous communities across Canada.
For over 60 years, the Indigenous Art Centre has been promoting works of art by Indigenous artists in Canada and abroad, through:
- its lending program for arts and cultural institutions
- its national and international projects
- research for national and international scholars and curators
