How we help support education in the Northwest Territories

Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) is committed to increasing the number of Indigenous students who graduate from accredited post-secondary education programs through various education-related programs. This includes the University and College Entrance Preparation Program. This program provides funding for registered First Nations individuals to enroll in post-secondary courses that will prepare them to enter a college or university program.

More information:

The department also currently funds 9 Indigenous organizations to support registered Northwest Territories' First Nations members in achieving their post-secondary education. This funding allows the organizations to flow monthly support payments to individual students who do not qualify for territorial student financial assistance. Participating organizations include:

Students should contact their representative organization directly to apply for funding or request more information.

Starting in 2023, the NWT Region will launch an Adult Basic Education support program. The program will have 2 different streams:

The student support stream will provide financial assistance for personal expenses in support of returning to school and furthering education goals. The First Nations organization stream is flowed to organizations in support of delivering or implementing Adult Basic Educations in their communities.
