The 2026 to 2027 call for proposals for modern treaty and self-government policy and awareness initiatives is now open. Proposals will be accepted until June 5, 2026, at 11:59 PM PDT.

About the funding
This proposal-based funding stream advances modern treaty and self-government arrangement implementation through:
- policy development
- engagement
- collaboration
- consultation
- co-development, including between Canada and Indigenous Modern Treaty and Self-Governing Partners
This funding is aligned with Canada's Collaborative Modern Treaty Implementation Policy, and funded initiatives should focus on advancing related federal policy objectives, such as:
- enabling Indigenous self-determination and autonomy
- economic prosperity
- strong intergovernmental relations
- cross-cutting implementation policy development activities
Who can apply
- Indigenous Modern Treaty and Self-Governing Partners
- Indigenous-led organizations, groups, or individuals with a mandate related to modern treaties or self-government
- non-Indigenous entities with a mandate related to modern treaties or self-government and demonstrated experience
Priority will be given to:
- Indigenous and Indigenous-led applicants
- applicants with extensive experience working in or fostering modern treaty and self-government arrangement implementation, awareness, and understanding

Eligible applicants are invited to submit proposals from April 1, 2026 to March 31, 2027, for initiatives taking place within the 2026 to 2027 fiscal year.

The deadline to submit a proposal is June 5, 2026, at 11:59 PM PDT.

Funding amount
The funding amount varies based on the project scope and objectives. Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada (CIRNAC) retains full discretion in evaluating proposals and making funding decisions based on the number of successful proposals and available funds.
